Outhouse. As you might be able to tell by the well traveled trail. This is not for decoration. However, in 20 degree weather, its not a throne for contemplation.
Port Jefferson Bay, This much ice over salt water is quite usual for this area. Its would probably have been crossable, if it were not for the ferry traffic.
Land, Lake, Land, Sea, Land Oyster Lake in foreground and Block Island Sound just past it.
Bald Peak Self portrait was a somewhat perilous endeavor. Slope was too steep for tripod. Gathered snow was use to as a footing. Armed with only a 10 second timer, several attempts were required, with fast scrambling over the steep slope.
Hike up Blueberry Mt A foot of soft snow on the ground. Lots of rain. Swollen creeks. Made for miserable Hike. My shoes and pants were not made for these conditions. With less than 1/4 left, summiting was aborted.

Finally we left the fog! Little did we know a thunderstorm was on the way. Lake Huron PH Hoeft State Park, Mi
Nom Nom Nom. This cricket dropped from a branch right in front of our canoe. We saved him and in return he posed in front of the camera a bit. He really like the are where we released him. A sunny meadow with very meaty plants. As soon as we set him down he started eating.
The sky in the water. I was shooting fish but they weren't anywhere as interesting as the foreground. So I turned the polarizer and shot just the reflections.
Its a nice shot. But came at a high price. I managed to catch several hundred chiggers while wandering off from the trail. I managed to get most of them of but still had a couple of dozen bites. My legs were itching like crazy for the next week.
Gasteracantha cancriformis I noticed this little fellow after I walked through his web. Sorry little guy.
Sneaky Sneaky! This bird would slowly sneak up on dragon flies. Then in an instant it would stretch out its body and snatch them. I saw it fetch 2 in 5 minutes or so that I was observing it. 100% success rate.

Junipers are completely covered in berries. Unfortunately, due to wind I could not get a sharp wide shot.
Deer Tick. A real pest here on Long Island. Stay away from these guys. They are carriers of the nasty lyme disease -- especially on LI. I generally like Arachnids, but not this one. They are all over the place on LI. During the first 15 min of my stroll I caught about 2 dozen crawling all over my pants. From then on I staid to the trails and away from the grass.
A meadow by shoreham beach. Looks inviting, but don't make a step into this tick infested grass.

All the trees turned into chandeliers after a heavy ice storm. It was all over the news and we didn't quite know what all the fuss was about as it was quite civil and only a couple fallen trees. As we left the area later that day we saw the real damage of the storm. A LARGE fraction of the trees along the route between Keene Valley and Underwood were overturned. Downed power lines all over the place.
Mind you I did not fall. After a whole day skiing in freezing rain / snow my clothes turned into an impenetrable shied of ice. Photo by Andrey Sukhanov
